Sometimes all it takes is perspective and sheer observation to change your life. These combined with compassion and dutiful attitude towards the community can change the lives of many. Human is a social being. We a community to survive. Yet, we easily choose to ignore our duties towards this essential community.
We know about people like Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King from our history textbooks. Mother Teresa was a nun. But she sought her calling in community service. Same goes for others. Nobody came and told them to do it. It was just their determination to create a difference and aim to ease the pain of others that fuelled them. Today the scenarios are changed. Most of us have become so tied up with the hectic lifestyle that we forget about the community. Hardly anyone of us cares to know what kind of community we live in. Let alone spending our time to help people around. Afterall who will give up the late morning snooze for stuff like the community.
It’s an easy thing to turn a blind eye towards community service under the pretext of the profession. However, Cheyanne Freeman, a fourth-year student in the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program at Northeastern University has broken all the barriers and started what she calls as ‘Community Pharmacy’. Freeman found cheering to help people with their prescription and respond to their queries positively and patiently.
We need more like Freeman. And the search starts from our own self.
