Health-care is an important sector in any economy or region. The well-being of everyone is always important. Government regulations have ensured, over time, that all have access to it whenever and wherever required. One simply cannot underestimate the importance of a sound health-care system. In most countries, health-care comes under government supervision, or at least a part of it. Ensuring access by all is one of the top agendas for every government to ensure the well-being of all its citizens.
The biggest concern in this sector is the access to quality facilities at a reasonable cost. It is a struggle for many governments, especially in third world countries, where medical infrastructure is not very advanced or not so accessible in remote regions, maybe due to lack of transportation infrastructure, due to difficult terrain or simply lack of resources.
The importance of healthcare cannot be stressed upon enough. A very important facet of health-care is health insurance. Many people either don’t get health insurance, or they don’t renew it and let it lapse. The cause could be the cost of renewing the insurance, or just that getting through with the procedure is time consuming or full of hassles.
Thus, an innovation in the health-care sector is due. Even in the first world countries, innovation is required to assist with the existing system of health-care. Everyone needs access to quality care at any time.
“We partner with hospitals to consider new ways to improve healthcare systems, we want to bring in people who are thinking about innovation in healthcare in order to move the whole industry forward,” says Jacqueline Griffin, an assistant professor of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Northeastern University. Griffin works with doctors to determine the best way to utilise their resources. She’s helped hospitals redesign spaces such as waiting rooms in order to serve the most people as effectively as possible.
