Wars have divesting effects, not only on the economics of the nation or its socio-political spheres but more importantly on the psychology of the people. All the citizens who see times of War are severely affected by the blood, killing, regular exposure to the sounds of shells and fires and the bomb droppings from the airplanes. However, the most devastating effects are on the soldiers themselves. After the Second World War, the soldiers who came back home were so psychologically disordered that they were unable to function properly and developed a fear of sounds accompanied by insomnia. This is what came to be called Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. Soldiers are a common victim of this disorder. After the American invasion of Iraq, the soldiers who fought against the regime of Saddam Hussain also suffered the same mental problem.
Looking into the problem of such soldiers, an organisation is working to help them in whatever little way they can. For this, they organise an annual “Run to Home Base” which is a 9 kilometers walk that aims to raise funds for the soldiers. In 2015, the community of Northeastern University also participated in the annual fundraising. When asked why they participate in such fundraising programs, one among them said that it is his moral duty to work for those who put their life on the line for the nation. Another person, when asked the same question, answered that his friend is also suffering from the same problem and this is he was to show solidarity to him.
The initiatives are well intended, but it is important to look into the source of evil. The root of lies in the state policy to declare wars that have to be fought by the soldiers. If there are no wars, there will not be the problem of Post-Traumatic stress disorder.
