The Science Of Learning

“Live as if you were to die tomorrow, learn as if you were to live forever”-Mahatma Gandhi

It is true when you learn, you grow. Learning comes in different forms; some learn through books, some learn through practice and some learn through failures. A highly qualified teacher still learns, a dignified worker also learns. Learning never stops but from where this learning material comes from? Environment. We all know that the environment can be decoded to a little extent with the help of science. Imagine how beautiful it would be when we will clear the concept of the science of learning.

Science of learning is defined as the way to connect what students learn and its practical implementation. One need not be a student of science to enhance their method of learning. A student of humanities when visualizes the beauty of colours in nature, learns about science behind the phenomenon creating a spectrum of colours. A mathematician when applies his calculations to problem-solving understands this science of numbers. Whenever you learn you should have a sense of betterment in your heart, i.e., you are not only learning for yourself, you are also learning with an ultimate goal of optimizing learning for all.

Therefore, discover more, focus on facts and compute the advantages and disadvantages of your work. This is how the science of learning feels like. Learning becomes meaningful only when the learned knowledge is fully understood to the extent that it relates to reality just like science responds to reality. Learning is incomplete when it lacks goal, purpose, motivation, interest, attention, practice, retention, testing, and guidance.

Esteemed psychologist, Stephen M. Kosslyn was invited at Northeastern University where his main focus was to give a brief understanding of learning as a science. He said that lectures are a terrible way to learn. This leads to active learning where discussions, intensive debates, and collaborative projects also play an important role. Real-time and face to face interaction of teachers and students is an important part of learning. Whenever skills and knowledge combine, learning becomes a miracle. Always remember that the science of today’s learning is the development that we can see tomorrow.
