The power of leaving your comfort zone

A comfort zone is a psychological state in which things feel familiar to a person and they are at ease and (perceive they are) in control of their environment, experiencing low levels of anxiety and stress. In this zone, a steady level of performance is possible.

The thing about living in your comfort zone is that it’s easy to get complacent. That’s dangerous because while you camp out in your “safe space,” the world around you is changing. And eventually, those outside forces can disrupt the “safety” that exists in your comfort zone. Also, we gradually lag behind in every course of life because when we become used to the same zone then suddenly out of that zone life becomes difficult to compete.

When we leave our comfort zone, we become more creative and productive in the work we do as comfort kills productivity. It also helps us to be more adaptable to change. It also leads to an increase in our pace of growth. The confidence level starts boosting. We will also become able to learn new things out of our comfort zone. It enhances our chance of doing far better in our endeavours. It helps us to try a hand at new things.

In an event at the Northeastern University, Marcy Reed, National Grid president for Massachusetts said, A turning point in her career was when National Grid’s CEO plucked her out of the office environment after 10 years with the company and put her in an operational position managing those crews in the field so she could gain more experience learning about different aspects of the company’s business. Therefore, like her, when we will be out of our comfort zone will experience and learn a lot of new things.
