Pitchfork, the music magazine describes Gish in a peculiar way. She is someone who “confronts challenges with erudite analogies, then conceals them with earnest, unaffected charm.” The Fader, music, culture and lifestyle magazine has identified Gish’s ability – “knack for turning the chronic self-awareness of the post-adolescent psyche into lilting, lyrical gold.”
The Guardian, the British news outlet, calls Gish as “mordantly funny, her bleak but cute rhyming schemes souring her sweet indie-pop.”
To answer the question ‘Who is Gish?’, as you must be wondering by now, she is a Northeastern University student. Sidney Gish is pursuing the music industry and is all set to complete her graduation this year. She recently was on a tour with Mitski, a critically-acclaimed musician. She got nominations for four awards at the Boston Music Awards. Gish actually won ‘Album of the year’ award for her second album, No Dogs Allowed. Gish tries to “think less, in a very head-ass removed way, about how I’m being creative and set aside a time to be creative every day. As long as I’m not hurting anyone and not hurting myself I’m allowed to do whatever I want to do”.
Gish’s iPhone serves storage of her creative mind, helping her to compose her two albums with her notes. “I was living in this huge world of all the ideas I’d had that I’d written down and been listening back. It was to scan for quality and include in creative work, and I’d been doing that my whole life,” Gish claims. “And so instead, I’m like, ‘you can’t do that,’ the only creative work I’m trying to make is going to be the stuff I actually share, so that way it’ll be less of a hellscape and I’ll be happier”.
Gish has a unique way of relaying her thoughts. She changes her tone, which showcases two different forms of information at the same time. What she has to say and the analysis, a running commentary if you will, on what she has to say is her style. The reviews she got all showcased her vocal trick of conflicting layers. Gish has been a musical kid since the start. She kept herself occupied with music and everything related to it. To be a self-sufficient individual, she did her co-ops at Aircraft Music Library and Island Records. There is nothing that she didn’t teach herself about music production and management. She has an agent as well as a manager. However, there is nothing satisfactory for being independent while playing her guitar.
Gish’s songs have made their way to Spotify’s ‘New Music Friday’ playlist last year. With all the success she has been getting from her start, she’s on her way to becoming a global sensation.
