Students in Boston are bringing in clean water to Uganda

We believe that in any corner of the world youths are the ones to fight for justice and utilise their education through standing by the needy. Similarly, the students from Boston stood by the poor people of Uganda and supported them in various ways. According to an assessment in 2016, Uganda is one of the poorest countries in the world with its poverty reducing significantly from 2006 to 2013. The people of Uganda are deprived of common supplies like water, food, electricity, and even proper sanitation. Students in Boston reached out to the remote villages of Uganda with the best intention to bring in clean water for the villagers.

The GlobeMed team of Northeastern University has come together and took a successful attempt in bringing in water sources near to the villages of Uganda to provide them with clean water. They also ensured the province of proper and safe sanitation for the villagers, especially for women. This news came forward in the #FollowFriday section of the news page of Northeastern. The co-president of GlobeMed, Nicole McFarlane described their endeavour in a small video clip and mentioned the team’s other activities which create opportunities for women in the village to earn and “further their position in the society”.

The ‘ugly holiday sweater sale’ is known to be the favourite fundraiser of the GlobeMed team. Everyone in the team hand decorates their sweaters and sells them every year to raise funds. Nicole adds that they had started with forty sweaters and collected up to $8000 last year. The team hopes to see an increase in their sales this year too.

Group of students at Northeastern University, Boston have joined hands to form the GlobeMed team and help the underprivileged. This enterprise is commendable and these small steps toward forwarding the status of society itself are a sign of education and enlightenment among the youths.
