Students addressing social issues on their own

Technological advancements have made humans machine-centred and less of skills. This has turned them ignorant to societal issues. Society involves people of different perceptions. Things that are considered normal in one society may or may not be normal in some other society. Thus, every single issue is not addressed the same. Some may be social, and a few may be economic. A few might not fall in either of these. You cannot address every single issue the same.

Understanding the urge for skills that is required to thrive in workforce the Northeastern University have decided to come up with a type of learning and knowledge that departs humans from machines. The university tries to deliver assistance that is required to sustain in a workplace interrupted by advancements in technology.

Students of different disciplines should respond to evolving societal issues such as privacy and ethics in the social media age, says Uta Poiger

As a result of this initiative the Northeastern University has involved eight students on humanics-themed semester, i.e., “Data, Ethics, Culture”. For this the University has partnered up with New College of Humanities. The course is ultimately based on basics of data science under the context of social science and humanities.

The students are very much excited about the combination of thinking around the algorithm and the social issues. This has prevented them from engaging in depth with the history and having the technologies in front. On the whole the University has decided to encourage students in experimental learning which in turn makes them strong ambassadors of combined thinking and reasoning.

Thus, there is a huge progress in terms of learning, understanding social issues, engaging locally as well as globally and also in handling them in the safest way. This has ended up in transforming the students who can engage responsibly.
