Northeastern University never ceases to evolve

Since its formation, Northeastern University has harnessed innovative ideas and propositions to evolve and improve with time and generation. One of the reasons for Northeastern University being in one of the top-most priorities in the field of academics is their continual approach to recruit the best to provide elite education and prime domain of research and scholarship. Since 2006, Northeastern has recruited more than 600 faculty members and has increased external research awards by 189 percentages. In 2016, Northeastern has received the highest classification in research, “R1” status, from the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education and the next year the university concluded its Empower campaign raising $1.4 billion for students, faculty, and research.

In the same year, Northeastern had come up with a plan to hire “game-changers” to increase the impact of the university’s educational and research front. They took up a $50 million initiative which tended to stretch through three years to advance the purpose of the university’s new academic plan, named ‘Northeastern 2025’. This initiative is taken to employ the leading scientists and scholars, including current and future Nobel laureates and visionary scholars. This fund is called the ‘game-changers fund’ which endeavours toward the target of improvement in both the individual and interdisciplinary departments and teams of the university.

Meanwhile, it is of great honour to have the current eminent faculty members who have contributed to historic discoveries of multiple fields. Amongst them are professors Kim Lewis and Slava Epstein who found teixobactin, the first antibiotic to be identified in more than three decades and professors Albert-László Barabási and Alessandro Vespignani are amongst the leading scholars in the interdisciplinary team at Network Science Institute who have defined the fields of network science.

According to the president of the Northeastern University, Joseph E. Aoun, the historic discoveries are brought by those who are game-changers in their fields. He said that “this investment will fuel the bold promise of our new academic plan—a strategy that has been shaped by our entire community.”
