Making moving easier than ever

Moving out can be scary but with the help of technology, a Northeastern University student, Alvaro Perez is trying to make it easy. He is working on making the moving process more efficient. He is the co-founder of the Boston-based start-up called Dibind. It is an online marketplace through which users can post and purchase high-quality second-hand furniture at affordable prices. People can easily buy, sell, or donate used furniture with just a click. The target audience is mostly college students. They are looking for good furniture at reasonable prices for their dorm rooms. Particularly people on a limited budget who want to decorate their spaces with nice furniture.

It is a company made by students for students. Everyone knows about the headaches involved in buying and selling furniture and if there is a way to make it uncomplicated who wouldn’t choose the easier way. Dibind offers a holistic solution to the move-in and move-out process. The seller will post a  photo of the item he wants to discard; it may be a television or a table. Further, he will quote a price for the item with a brief description. Dibind would then review the image to check if the item is in good condition and pick up from the seller’s place once a buyer has been found. The buyer browses the online catalogue, picks the item he wants, and then selects his desired delivery date. For every sale, the start-up takes a 20 to 30 percent commission. In case the seller cannot find a buyer, Dibind will donate the furniture to the Salvation Army, handling the logistics for free. If the buyer is a nomadic city dweller and knows he will eventually find another place, he can utilize a feature called Dibind Boomerang, in which the start-up will price and re-post the item 30 days before the move.

The entrepreneurs behind Dibind have outsourced the development of a mobile app to a software company in India and are currently looking to expand the start-up to Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. Perez wants to make Dibind the number one market place for buying and selling furniture. He is offering quality goods with pickup and delivery service, unlike his competitors. He is building the company to be the first choice for students in Boston while creating a community of users.
