Love – The antidote to hatred

The negativity of fights between nations through politics, wars, the unwanted attacks has been excruciating. It has overwhelmed the people with immense hatred for each other creating an environment unsuitable for leading lives with compassion, selflessness, and forgiveness.

As we zoom in on different dimensions, we find people living in the same places and localities carrying grudges and loathing against one another. However, as our peace leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa have said in their teachings – the only way to overcome the negativity of hatred in a community is by showing affection and doing deeds of love. The feeling of revenge and vengeance can’t give the satisfaction or harmony which comes with doing an act of love and concern for someone selflessly. The feeling of hate can only be conquered upon with love and nothing else.

A lot was talked about the same when Northeastern University’s students and professors got together as a community in a sacred space to address the attack on Pittsburgh’s Tree of life synagogue. 11 people were killed which destroyed the natives as a community. A student who lived a couple of blocks from the place of attack addressed the meeting and expressed how he felt about what happened and what should happen now to regain a peaceful environment. His thoughts about believing in God for controlling the cycle of life and always looking for helpers and do-gooders even in the worst situations gave the same idea about how the act of love and positivity helps destroy the hatred in people’s minds. The good will always outnumber the bad; it’s just about looking with the right perspective and getting rid of the negative vibes in the surroundings.

The feeling of hate isn’t wrong. The human body feels everything in its subconscious equally. It’s about knowing what is good for an individual and a community as a whole. He said with teary and determined eyes,“Be sad, be angry, but don’t let fear paralyse you into doing nothing. Fight hate with love. May the memories of those lost, always be a blessing” which pretty much summed up the idea of hate not standing a chance against love.
