The world has been in a state of continuous cold war. Earlier it was between USSR and the U.S. and after that, the competition has been shifted to Iran. Post Islamic revolution of 1979 in which Iran deposed the U.S. puppet government and build a sovereign theocratic government, The US has always seen Iran as an enemy state. The continuous imposition of economic sanctions by the IUs and its allies and the continuous violation of its sovereignty and the proxy wars in Yemen, Lebanon, and Gaza explicitly manifest the aggression of the U.S. on Iran. The prime argument of the U.S. for the economic sanction was that Iran is developing a weapon of mass destruction which is a violation of the international Non-Proliferation treaty. However, there has not been any conclusive evidence in the surveys done by the international agencies.
Recently, the U.S. and Iran have agreed to sit together and formulate an agreement in which Iran agrees not to pursue its goal of being a nuclear nation and the U.S. concludes to light up all its economic stations. Valentine Moghadam, Director of Northeastern University International Affairs and Middle East Studies programs, commenting on the agreement has called it a wonderful victory of diplomacy in aggression. She described that both the U.S. and Iran are the winner and they will have a lot to benefit from the liberalisation of the relations as it will result in more trade and commerce. The losers, as Moghadam described is Israel who perceives Iran as its prime enemy. Israel has said that it will everything to stop this agreement from implementation. International relations as in contemporary times based on bandwagon theory where there is a singular authority that coordinates the world affairs, and currently it’s the U.S. However, their hegemony is always under challenge. Therefore, it’s essential to create structures in which everyone finds space and recognition and has the opportunity to grow. Only then will we can live in peace.
