We are moving towards a society which is coming together globally and not just for trade, but also as a community. The concept of globalisation is usually used for trade, which is one of the reasons behind communities getting so much integrated with each other.
There is a beauty in this diversity. People from different backgrounds and communities come together to solve global problems, or work on ideas. Everyone has their unique point of view, and all those differences coming together, and making something new and unique, working on projects, is beautiful in itself.
Recently, Northeastern University had its convocation and celebrated the diverse community it has. In the event, President Joseph E. Aoun said, “We are not a reflection of society, we are not a microcosm of society; you are the model of what society can be.”
It is well said that ‘the youth of today is going to be the leader of tomorrow’. We are not the ones who can shape the future, we are the future. The youth of today is well connected with the world. We are curious as well as driven. With trade going global, the political and geographical borders which restrained us were smudged. We got inclined towards learning about the cultures and traditions of other countries. When you learn about something, you start caring about it, and that is how we came to caring about each other and we became a global community. Before globalisation, all we focused on was our borders and what happened within those borders. Now, we are so connected to each other that a slump in one economy can bring down lots of other economies as well. The great recession in the United States of 2007 had major impact on almost the whole world.
We are collaborating across oceans, across cultures to come together on a common platform and connect with each other, not just on a professional level, but on a personal one too. And we have globalised trade to thank for it.
