Giving yourself the break you needed

To all those who haven’t been affected by the virus, the widespread corona outbreak has made a drastic lifestyle change. Staying indoors 24/7 is not everyone’s cup of tea. While some of us find it extremely stressful to work from home with our family in the other room, for others a plain lifeless boredom has set in. For those of us who do not know what to do to take a break from the work or while away the time, Tomi Delp from Saint Louis University has put together a list of horror movies.

Available on Netflix, the movie “Carrie” is inspired from the book of the same title by Stephen King. The story of a shy, unpopular girl with an abusive mother, Carrie finds herself with telekinetic powers and embraces it leading to chaos. The 1988 “Child’s Play” has become so popular that it has an entire franchise to itself now with seven full-length and two short films. With a plot that talks about a serial killer transforming his soul into a doll, the movie sends chills across every person who considered children’s toys to be just playthings. Merging the genres of sci-fi and horror, “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” is a chilling experience following the journey of a medical inspector and his colleague who investigates on the spread of an alien population on the planet who look exactly like humans except without personality or feelings.

The 1996 “Scream” takes a satirical tone to critique the overused clichés of horror movies produced, while at the same time proving to be scary entertainment for the audience. Renowned as the greatest independent films of all time, “The Evil Dead” is a low budget movie that brought out interesting perspectives to the genre. If what you are looking for is a psychological horror thriller, your best bet is “Rosemary’s Baby” which follows the pregnancy of a woman who carries the child of Satan.

With these films to keep us on the edges of our seats, this unexpected time at home can prove to be an entertaining one.
