Farmers’ market on wheels

A farmers’ market (also known as a greenmarket) is, in its purest incarnation, a place where farmers sell their products directly to consumers. Some farmers’ markets will post that they are certified or verified. This means the market has rules about who can sell and what can be sold at the market. Such rules usually run along the lines of farmers being able to sell only their own products and vendors of cooked food or crafts having had to make their products by hand. These norms also vary from country to country.

Due to the advancement in technology, the techniques of agriculture are also getting modified. Therefore, due to more efficient techniques, the harvest has also increased which results in a better surplus for farmers. The better surplus makes the farmers’ market flourish. In addition to the modified techniques, farmers are also getting lots of benefits from the government. The Government is making many schemes for the welfare of farmers like giving loans on less interest rate, subsidies on various things, and increasing the minimum selling price.

All these things directly or indirectly help farmers to get their market on wheels. With the growing pace, farmers are also getting modernised. This also helps them to dig something better. In fact they must flourish in all their endeavours as they are our Godfather on this planet Earth who satisfies our need for food.

Clarke and fellow co-founder, Josh Trautwein, the chief marketing officer and a 2010 Sociology graduate, have worked closely with IDEA, Northeastern’s student-run venture accelerator, which helped them develop a flexible social business model with a focus on serving the community through accessible and affordable fruits and vegetables. “A health centre can only do so much and education programs are only so useful without access to healthy foods,” said Trautwein, who works for the Fitzgerald Youth Sports Institute, a Boston-based organisation that targets barriers that restrict youth participation in sports and physical activity. “If people have to travel an hour to get to a supermarket to do their food shopping, they are more likely to buy processed foods that aren’t going to go bad in a week. We’re trying to make fresh food more readily accessible.” Therefore, the farmer’s market plays a very prominent role in every individuals’ life.
