Amelia Earhart quoted “Women, like men, should try to do the impossible. And when they fail, their failure should be a challenge to others.”Women empowerment is the empowerment of women which helps them to take their own decisions by breaking all personal limitations of the society and family. Women’s empowerment is intertwined with respect for human rights.
Despite all the participation in business, academics, fashion, politics, etc., women still struggle to be considered equal to their male counterparts. The glass ceiling has started to crack, but there is still a lot of chipping away that needs to be done. That was the all-embracing message delivered by speakers at the “Women Who Empower” symposium held at the Northeastern University, starting off Women’s History Month.
A lot of personalities visited, emphasizing on the increased participation and to “Get on that field and play”. Women discussed the evolution of leadership style and exchanged words of wisdom about the value of making hard decisions, finding purpose through work, cultivating supportive relationships, and keeping your cool. With the theme that there has never been a better time to be a woman, there were highlights on the rising number of women in politics, particularly in the House of Representatives and Senate, and in other professional occupations such as medicine and law. There was a discussion about the gender pay gap being at an all-time low, especially among workers aged 25 to 34, who make 89 percent as much as men do.
In “Women Who Empower” the members found that not only was there a great appetite for just being together and hearing people’s stories but that they found energy and power in one another. They called it “A catalyst for moving forward.” And definitely, a very important issue has been highlighted which needs further discussion among youth and adults alike.
