In the time of emergency, it is ideal to stand together and fight the war together without any barrier, prejudice, or any notion. If it means to implore for the helping hand to succeed in the war, then the steps must be taken as required. Contextually, the United States government has finally agreed to join hands with the private sectors to help prevent the U.S. healthcare system from being overwhelmed by the current pandemic of coronavirus spread. The United States of America features amongst the most affected areas by the COVID-19 pandemic and is incessantly fighting from the prior days to secure the safety and health of the citizens by taking necessary decisions.
President Donald. J. Trump has solicited the Defence Production Act to request companies to participate in the prevention of the pandemic and help prevent the overwhelming burden on the government’s healthcare system by producing sixty thousand COVID-19 test kits as well as 500 million personal protective masks. This Defence Production Act was enacted during the Korean War which allows the president to require help from private companies for national defence. Trump beforehand had refrained from requiring the companies to produce emergency medical goods because according to him, he did not “wish to nationalise American businesses”, but Stephen Flynn, founding director of the Global Resilience Institute and an associate professor of Political Science at the Northeastern University mentioned that the Defence Production Act does not tend to take any control of the companies during or after the period of emergency.
Flynn believes that the COVID-19 pandemic emulates the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbour and “this is as much of a national emergency as any that this nation has faced since World War II and we’ve got to start treating it that way.” He urges all the public figures, opinion leaders and people with a national security background to come forward and join him in calling for Trump to continue responding to the emergency with serious outlook.
