Do you really think of artificial intelligence as a boon to mankind? All of us have been enjoying the comfort artificial intelligence has provided us. Almost every workplace has been equipped with it. But one thing that is going unnoticed is that the use of artificial intelligence has slowly wiped out the human workforce in companies. A time might come when artificial intelligence wipes out the human workforce completely. According to a survey conducted by the Northeastern University and Gallup, 88% of the people believe in this and are anxious about this possibility. The issue spread like fire and came in front of the eye of Democratic candidates standing for presidentship.
A debate was held on the issue about how the people can be prepared well in advance for such disruption. Considering the international poll, 10% of the people believe their undergraduate skills will save them. However, 65% of the people claim lack of money to gain an education that will fill up the gaps left by their undergraduate education. Andrew Yang, a democratic candidate stood for that 65% of the people, in the debate. He proposed the idea of providing everyone above the age of 18 with $1000/month, in compensation to the change in the job market due to automation.
“This is the move that we have to make, particularly as technology is now automating away millions of American jobs,” said Yang during the debate.
However, his proposition is supported only by 43% of the people. Several other Democratic candidates also participated by putting forward their views regarding the issue.
“We must always be a county where technology creates more jobs than it displaces. And I have seen the anxiety across America where the manufacturing floors go from 1,000 to 100 to one,” said Eric Swalwell, a U.S. Representative from California who is also running for president.
Eric believes in the idea of upgrading the education level in schools and colleges. This would make students proficient for surviving in the artificial intelligence age. Some of the other Democratic candidates were impressed by his ideas while some were not. Let’s just hope they come up with a better solution to this and help people survive in the artificial intelligence age.
