“Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before.” – Dalai Lama
We travel, some of us forever, to seek other states, other lives, other souls. Travel makes one modest. You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world. When we get out of the glass bottle of our ego and when we escape like the squirrels in the cage of our personality and get into the forest again, we shall shiver with cold and fright. But things will happen to us so that we don’t know ourselves; cool, unlying life will rush in. We must travel, to unravel these adventures that are there in front of us. However, going places isn’t easy for all. Things may not go according to our plans and there may be a lot of things we miss out on due to lack of knowledge.
Lucrezia Senesi, a student of the Northeastern University created the website EXPLORAC, where local guides could offer customized experiences for travellers who want to immerse themselves in a foreign culture without feeling like an out-of-place tourist. Senesi has built a global network of helpful locals ready to offer unique insights to people who find themselves in unfamiliar surroundings abroad.
Locals are the best source of information for tourists who want to explore an unfamiliar city. EXPLORAC is meant to help in places that are really culturally different. Interacting with the locals of different cultures really allows you to understand a place better. This database of city experts expanded. Partnerships can be formed with universities and website can be used as an academic tool for students studying abroad.
