A salute to all the coronavirus helpers

“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”

- Mahatma Gandhi

Amid the spread of this novel coronavirus, when people are confining to their homes, people on the front lines are delivering their services wholeheartedly. They deserve a grand salute for their selfless service. A huge number of tributes are pouring in, which shows how unified people are to fight this global pandemic. Home-quarantined people are expressing their love for the COVID-19 helpers. Social media is flooded with messages to support those confronting the outbreak to help others. Shouts and applause are evidenced in many locked-down cities.

To recognise and honour the relentless service of millions of people on the frontline, Google launched a doodle series. Through this, it thanked public health workers, researchers, police, emergency service workers, custodial and sanitation workers, public transportation drivers, farmers, grocery store employees, teachers, and child care workers, food service workers, and delivery workers.

Alyson Dahlberg, a nursing student at the Northeastern University works as an emergency department technician in a hospital. She has not left her work during the pandemic, rather performing it with greater care. She is well aware of the risks associated with being in proximity to COVID-19 patients and the probability of the spread of the virus; therefore, she takes adequate precautions to keep herself and her family safe. Her fearless attitude and strong will to serve keeps her motivated.

Dahlberg’s story is a glimpse of the life of numerous health workers around the globe during this pandemic. Thousands of former nurses and doctors have come forward to join the fight against this pandemic. They are defiantly working to save lives in extremely perilous conditions across the world.

In this fight against precarious COVID-19, let’s contribute our part by practising social distancing and commemorating the efforts of front line heroes.
