A green new deal, an initiative taken up by the members of the Congress in the US is an enormous and courageous step to alter the economy and embark on the crisis of inequality and climate change. This deal will mobilise vast public resources to assist us with the transition of the economy reliant on exploitation and hegemony of few on large. Presently, it’s a status -quo economy. While billionaire corporate polluters are lining their own pockets, the middle-class people are poisoned with the noxious environment. This deal will reshape the economy into sustainable, environmentally sound, economically viable, and socially responsible. The green new deal will resolve the climate crisis by integrating quick action resulting in net-zero Green House Emissions with 100% renewable energy by 2030. This wholesale global transition from fossil fuels will cause disruption for a while like unemployment and during the transition it will require huge investments due to the renewal of energy regarded as exorbitant.
Jennie Stephens, a professor of sustainability science and policy at Northeastern University says, “It’s widely accepted that the costs of investing in renewable energy are high but we have to consider that the cost of not investing will be higher.”
To scale up the green technology, the government will require raising prices on them, introducing higher energy standards and taking part in prodigious industrial projects. From the past few decades, the working-class community has suffered deterioration and endured disproportionate economic and environmental hazards.
The fossil fuels, like coal and petroleum, have limited resources and a smaller number of territories that have rich resources of these fuels which cause an imperialistic attitude towards working classes. This deal will terminate inequality and injustice towards these working classes as renewable energy like sunlight, water, and geothermal energy has no limit and the developing countries too can be self-sufficient to make use of these resources. It will bring a new scope for job opportunities, cost savings, pollution cleanup projects, and climate resilience initiatives. To work on this deal is arduous but this deal will diminish the domination of the bourgeoisie over the proletariat and will create a sterilised environment for the future.
