After witnessing thousands of cases of the pandemic COVID-19, it is necessary to stop the chain of transmission of the virus to prevent it from spreading any further. Researchers are yet to find a vaccine and find out whether they will be effective at all to cure the disease. In such a scenario, the only shot we have is to take precautions such as social distancing.
After the shutting down of working places, educational institutes, the religious spots, there has been considerably lesser number of cases reported daily. However, this fight against the virus will be considered a victory only when there will be no new cases reported. Professor Alessandro Vespignani, director of Network Science Institute at the Northeastern University, said that it depends on the local, federal, and state government how they use this time to prevent the spread of the disease. The state government is taking necessary steps to make the citizens follow the rule of social distancing, also known as self-quarantine, strictly. Rules are being imposed where people are prohibited from coming out from their houses for unnecessary things. All countries are taking necessary methods to prevent the spread of the virus. India has called on a national lockdown where people are not allowed to step outside of their houses, all the necessary items are home delivered by a delivery personnel taking proper precautions. All the places such as shopping malls and other hangout places have been shut down to avoid mass gathering.
The main aim behind this idea is to flatten the curve of the rate of the transmission of the disease which has touched the peak point.Social distancing slows down the speed of the virus in which it transfers from one person to another. In countries like the U.S. there are more a million people are affected by this virus. However, they are still trying to contain the disease.
We, human beings, need to stand together and fight this pandemic together. This disease has the power to destroy human life if not pause it completely. Measures like social isolation are required to be adhered to strictly. Let us fight this pandemic together and win over it.
