A cheese plate is a go-to appetizer for many as it offers a treat to the palate with the burst of flavours, the sweet and salty nibbles. It has been often looked at as something fancy, grabbing the limelight, adored, and visually beautiful. That Cheese Plate, the brainchild of Marissa Mullen, struck her as an idea as she preparing food for her college friends. She was suddenly struck by the aesthetically pleasing appearance of what she had just put together and decided to turn it into a lucrative business. Marissa decided to take it up a notch and she started an Instagram by the same name.
Soon, she decided to share her creations and create an inspirational hub for cheese plate fanatics. She put together her photographic skills along with her talent as a content creator and climbed the ladder of success. Her Instagram page currently has 175k followers which contain inspirational pictures of her plate. Mullen started off from Northeastern University and now works at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert as the creative manager for the bandleader. She founded decided to set up the page in 2013 and called it the “go-to source for cheese plate inspiration”. She is frequently referred to as the “cheese plate influencer”.
Mullen developed the skills of being a cheese plate connoisseur from her childhood where she learnt a lot from her father who was a self-taught chef himself. She recalls, “Cheese was definitely my favourite food group growing up. And it’s weirdly always been part of my life.” She enjoys mixing up ingredients of different colours for plating. She puts together various fruits, vegetables, different meats, garnishes, nuts, and dips alongside the huge variety of cheese. Mullen enjoys seeing people dive into her plate and calls it a kind of “destructive art”.
