A brief look into the controversial state of Israel

Israel has for long been a controversial topic in world news. From being exiled by the Romans to the atrocities of World War 2, Jews have lived through the toughest of times. Located in the middle-east, Israel has always been despised by the other countries in the Gulf. The Iran–Israel proxy war and Iran–Israel Cold War is bound in the political struggle of Iranian leadership against Israel and its declared aim to dissolve the Jewish state, with the counter aim of Israel to prevent nuclear weapons being acquired by the Iranian government and downgrading its allies and proxies such as the Lebanese Hezbollah party. As a result, there have been several terrorist attacks within the country as well. Israel is fighting everyone on its own as there has barely been any support on the international stage.

To tackle this situation, the country went through a digital revolution. Such has been the growth of technology in the country that today Israel has become a leader in the cybersecurity industry. As a cybersecurity powerhouse at the centre of an $82 billion industry, Israel has the world’s supply on a check. This has not only helped the country in the surveillance of its enemies but the revenue has also helped them bolster their military forces. This revolution has helped the country develop economically in a short period.

Israel and controversy have never been far apart for too long with the Gaza strip issue being another controversial issue. As a result, traditional media has always had a surficial view of the news related to the country. Lori Lefkovitz, director of the Northeastern University Humanities Center has stressed on the importance of good journalism in these distressful times. Mark Oppenheimer, a columnist for The New York Times has stated that the Jewish media is probably the only religious media that investigates itself.
